Use-Tax Exemptions - For the Ohio Consumer?
Following letter sent out January 17, 2001
|
Jan 17, 2001 TO: State-of-Ohio; Governor, Tax Commissioner, State Senators, State House Representatives, and the NEWS MEDIA WARNING - Any attempt, to give any amount, of exemption, of the requirement of the consumer, of paying any and all amounts of Use-Tax due, on any merchandise purchased (outside of Ohio), would clearly further undermine support, by the State of Ohio, local consumer purchases at local Ohio Retail Stores. Any exemption, that would be enacted, by the State-of-Ohio, would give the Ohio consumers a clear message, that the savings, of not paying Sales-Tax, at a local store, should always be perferred, at least up to the exemption amount, by using out-of-state retailers. If any exemption was established, then the State-of-Ohio is sending a strong message, to every Ohio consumer, that it is OK to avoid the Sales-Tax, at the local Ohio Retailer, and that it is OK for them not to pay the Use-Tax, when they choose to support a Retailer in a different State, and further shows that the State-of-Ohio is absolutely not doing anything to protect the Ohio Retailers, here in Ohio, from the Sales-Tax, mandated by the State-of-Ohio, that unfairly keeps the Ohio Retailer non-competitive, with the local Ohio consumer. If the State-of-Ohio cannot strictly enforce, any and all Use-Taxes, that is owed by the Ohio Consumer to the State-of-Ohio, then I would like to know why I should still be unfairly mandated, to be the Tax-Collector, with my own local customers. If the State-of-Ohio, let the consumers voluntarily report, both the Sales-Tax (from local purchases), and the Use-Tax (from their out-of-state purchases), without any requirement of the local retailer from collecting any of those taxes, then all retailers would be on an even basis, and the burden of proof would be entirely on the State-of-Ohio, to show that any Ohio consumer would owe any Sales/Use-Tax at all! Most consumers would volunteer almost nothing to the State-of-Ohio, in other words, the benefit being given to the Ohio consumer, would come back and BITE THE STATE-OF-OHIO IN THE BUTT! When will the requirement, of all Sales-Tax collection, by the local Ohio Retailer, of Sales-Tax, with Ohio consumers, be stopped??? That is the Tax that took my local support away from my local consumers, unfairly. That is the tax, that the State-of-Ohio used, to take away my equal opportunity of earning a fair income, while keeping me responsible, for paying a property tax, on the inventory that consumers now chose to buy, out of the State of Ohio, under their demands of: LOWEST PRICE, FREE SHIPPING AND NO SALES-TAX, as an educated consumer. The State-of-Ohio Legislative Body, and Tax Departments, are responsible for the unfair Taxing, that made many small Ohio Retail Stores, unable to compete, and putting those retail store owners in a situation of being forced to live in poverty, without any concern, for providing any relief, on those Ohio families, who lost their hopes, of being able to be successful, by working hard and honestly, for what???
